No deberían compararlas. No importa si vienen cristianos a nosotros, parsis vienen a nosotros, jainas vienen a nosotros, o musulmanes vienen a nosotros.

Born on the continents of the world, this country has earned reputation and has given birth to great people who have been responsible for the reputation of this country to spread in the entire continents of the world. This country has also been able to drive away the Western rulers and wrest freedom from their hands. This country has also been able to establish its reputation for great scholarship and for producing people of erudition who were respected all over. Our country has shown considerable strength in maintaining and creating original literature, original music, original scholarship. We have also been able to produce great arts that have been appreciated all over the world. Such is our land, the land of Bharat. Such is the reputation which this country, Bharat, has earned. Such is the conduct which has been put before the rest of the world.

To preserve, to protect, and continue this reputation which the country has earned, the entire responsibility rests on the shoulders of you, boys and girls, children of this great country.

Just as the well-being of a tree rests solely on the goodness of the roots under the tree, just as the security of a big building rests on the good foundations that we give to the building, so also the future of one's life rests very much on the strength we give in its childhood.

To be able to render your young age, the youth, into a sacred one, to be able to join the Balvikas and learn there from the stories that illumine our tradition and our culture, much considerable amount of help that is being given to you by the teachers of Balvikas is something for which you should feel extremely grateful.

The spiritual heritage that has come to us in this country from our ancestors, that which has been proclaiming the greatness of our culture, in place of that we see today injustice, we see untruth, we see hatred, we see dislike of each other. I am very much hoping that these demons which are dancing amidst our society today will be faced with courage by you, boys and girls, who by training through Balvikas will assume the leadership of this country and will be in a position to drive away these demons which are spoiling our social structure.

In the train of our social life, boys and girls are those who have to undertake a rather long journey. The elders amongst you are like travelers, are those who are making a journey and who will get off the journey very soon, either at the next station or the second station or the third station. But you, boys and girls, sitting in this train of the society, have to make a long journey, and you will have to take in your own hands the security of the train of the society.

The affairs of the world depend very much on the affairs of the individual countries that make up the world. The affairs of a country depend very much upon the society that fills that country. The affairs of the society depend very much upon the nature of the individual that composes the society. You are individuals. You compose the society. You will have to be very cautious and wary about the well-being of the social structure. Thereby, you will have to look after the river of your country and make it reach safely the ocean of this universe.

The first ideal of Balvikas is to be able to understand universal love, is to be able to spread universal love, is to be able to, through universal love, reach satisfaction.

According to our Indian culture, we refer to mother as our God, we refer to father as our God. Mother and father, the parents, are the manifestations of divinity to us in a visible form. Our parents have given us this body. Our parents have given us the food by which the body could grow. Our parents have handed us the ideals with which we have to live. For the food they have given us, for the ideals they have given us, for the birth for which they have given us, we have to be grateful to them and show our gratitude.

Our body, our blood, everything in this human body, all the aspects and all the capacities are things which have been given to us as a gift by our parents. In the condition or in the context in which we are unable to give satisfaction to our sacred parents who have handed us this body, how will you be able to give some good to the country? How will you be able to rectify this society? How will you be able to look after the security of your own country? You can think about this.

When we are not in a position to make father and mother, who are in one and the same house, feel happy, in what manner can we handle the problems of this vast country? In what manner can we make people happy who are spread all over this world?

The boys and girls who belong to Balvikas should begin in the very first instance to look to their homes, to respect their parents, to give the due respect to their brothers, to give respect to their sisters. Should be the first step with which they begin their life. The second step which we have to take is to be able to respect, give respect to our neighbors. We should also see who is coming to our house, and under those conditions, we should be ready to give respect to those who are coming in. Gradually, in this manner, we should be able to spread our acquaintance and our ability to give respect and consideration to the rest of the village. From the village, gradually we should be able to move on, take into our fold the whole district. From taking the whole district into our account, we should be able to move to the country as a whole.

Sweethearted boys and girls, in the very first instance, you must respect and take to yourselves the aspect of service. You should never allow ego or arrogance to enter your minds. It is only when you develop the capacity to do some service and become a servant, you will be in a position to become a leader and lead. Without becoming a servant, you never earn the right to become a leader. It's only when you are able to do hard things as kinkara, you can then rise to the position of Sankara, the protector.

All the boys and girls should have in your minds with great care the need for discipline. You have to regard these three things, discipline, devotion, and duty, as the very life breath of your own life, and you should think that these are spread all over the three attributes, sattva, raja, and tamo, and you will have to give them the necessary importance.

Therefore, in your life, while you are in this young and sacred age, if you do not recognize what is the appropriate kind of work you have to do, if you do not recognize when and how you have to do this appropriate work, you will only be wasting the time. You should be able to bring out the great ideas that are contained in you. You should be able to cash on the enthusiasm that you will have in this young age. You should be able to draw on the courage which is characteristic of the Atma or the Self in you. In this way, you must make these things enter the society around you.

If in this age you cannot control your senses, when you become older, you will become controlled by your senses, and you will get into great many difficulties. When your body is strong, when your mind is strong, when your spirit is strong, right now at this age, if you do not undertake to do these good and necessary things, when you become old, you will not be able to control them. They will control you. You will become a slave to these things, and you will have to depend upon someone else.

For all our life, time is important. In fact, time is responsible for the entire life. But this human body, which consists of the five elements, is not going to remain as a permanent one. Once this body dies, this body drops down or disappears, it won't be possible for you to find again this body in any other place. Whether it is the property which we own or the bodily pleasures which we have, all these things are temporary. They are like moving or passing clouds.

But even after you have gone, even after you have passed away, whether it is in the past or the present or the future, at all times, what remains is the immortal aspect in you. It is only the reputation that you may have earned would remain as an immortal thing. If you do good and then die, others who will follow you later will always be thinking of the good that you have done, will be mentioning your name in honor, and will be thinking about the good that you have contributed. If you have done something bad and you pass away, the generations that will come after you, generations after generations will only be thinking of the bad that you have done and will be thinking of you in a bad manner.

I am hoping because you have been gifted by God this sacred human life, that during this sacred human life, you will do some good things, you will do some work which is worthy of mentioning, and thereby you will make your life purposeful and useful.

A little while ago, a small girl told us that this body is like the temple of God. In the body resides God. The very heart inside the body is the seat where God resides. Therefore, to such a body, we will have to recognize that all the organs in this body are to be sacred, and they cannot be abused. The five senses have to be kept good — your sight, your hearing, your smell, your touch, and your taste. All these five senses have to be kept in a good condition, and they should not be allowed to deteriorate.

Because we have been given this human life, and on account of the saying jantūnām nara-janma durlabham, of all the births of various kinds of animals, to be born as a human being is something which is very difficult, and that is what you have achieved. Having achieved this human life, you must spend all the time that you have at your disposal in speaking truth, in thinking of good things, in keeping good company, in having good thoughts, and in doing good things. If you waste your time without attending to these things, it will mean that time wasted is life wasted.

Pavitratma Swarupas, students, boys and girls, the tongue which we have with us is something which is very sacred. We have to keep this tongue sacred. We cannot utter untruth or words which will hurt others. It is by uttering such good words that we have to render the tongue a sacred one. It is by uttering such good words that we have to render our life a sacred one. Satyam nāsti paro dharmaḥ. There is no other right conduct which is different from truth. Truth, utterance of true words is the most important conduct, and that we should be able to give our tongue by uttering the correct word, the sacredness.

The basic qualities or attributes of divinity are three. They are Sat, Chit, Ananda. These three, Sat, Chit, Ananda — being, awareness, and bliss — are not things or qualities which one has to search for, go out, and earn them. They are always shining right within us. Sat stands for truth. Chit stands for wisdom. Ananda is the bliss or happiness that is essential for our life. Enter the path of truth. Make an enquiry with the necessary wisdom, then you become one with bliss and the happiness that is necessary.

Do not believe the world, do not fear death, do not forget God. These are the three things which you have to keep firmly in your mind. These three aspects are the three aspects of divinity, and these represent the three important aspects which we call the Dattatreya.

Divyatma Swarupas, God is only one. One God alone exists. He may take different forms and names, but God is one.

Boys and girls, in the Maharashtra area, you are familiar with many sweets which we make — Mysore Pak, Gulab Jamun, Kheer, and so on. All these sweets which we make, they have one thing which is basic in them and common to all of them, and that is sugar. So also, whether you call God by name Rama, by name Krishna, by name Govinda, Narayana, or Sai Baba, whatever name you may use, the one thing that is prevalent in all of them is the Atma, the supreme Atma, which is common to all these names.

Religions are all different from one another, but the path for them is one and the same. It is that which will be referred to as the clean heart. The cloths may be different from each other, but the essential base element is the same. The ornaments that we make are different from each other, but the gold that goes to make them is one and the same. The appearance of various cows may be different, but the milk that comes from them is all one and the same. The various animals and the jivas which you see in different forms are different. The conduct and the ideas and the different sects may be different, but the birth of all these people is one and the same. The flowers belong to different categories, but the worship which you do with the flowers is one and the same. It is only for our individual pleasure that we are adopting different methods, but the aspect of Atma is one and the same and is no different from one method to another is something which boys and girls should recognize clearly.

Prema Swarupas, boys and girls, in this Vallabhbhai Stadium, we are now noticing different kinds of bulbs that are shining differently. In several places, in many ways, in manifold different kinds of bulbs, we are observing them shining. These bulbs are different, and they appear to be different from each other, but the current that is flowing through them is one and the same. In the same manner, all your bodies are comparable to different bulbs. The divine Atma that is present in all of you is the current. It is to connect such a current through all these bodies, you have to use the two wires, the wire of truth and the wire of right conduct.

At this moment, in this bulb, we do find something which is nice and pleasant and bright. This shining that you see in this bulb is Prema. There is no man in this world in whom this Prema does not exist. One may designate and call this Prema by different names. One may utilize the Prema that is in him in many different ways. But Prema is something which is one and only one, which is not a diverse phenomenon.

If therefore we have the desire that this shining of Prema should shine in the mansion of this world, the bulb which is Shanti or peace, that should be in good condition. To the bulb which is in good condition, there should be a proper contact through the wire Dharma. Simply because we have a wire connected to it, we are not able to enjoy the shining of Prema. Through the wire Dharma should pass the truth, the current of truth. Thus we have here that the current is truth, the wire is Dharma. Through the current, the current has to pass through the wire of Dharma, Shanti is the bulb, then we get the shining of Prema.

If therefore we desire to spread universal Prema all round this world, then you have to realize the oneness of these three qualities, Satya, Dharma, and Shanti. Where there is no light, where there is no brightness, there will be darkness. Where there is darkness, fear will grow. So, where there is no light of Prema, there will spread ignorance. Where there is the darkness of ignorance, there will spread fear.

In this world today, the fearful signs that we see, the frightful things that we find happening, the responsibility for this lies on the fact that Prema has dwindled and disappeared. In this context, I am hoping that the boys and girls who belong to the various institutions of Balvikas should make all attempts by which to promote Prema in this world.

Prema Swarupas, in your classes, there may be small differences between individuals. Using those small differences and building yourself on that, you should not develop hatred. The teachers should teach the children, and I hope they will be able to soothe them with loving words and not promote hatred by small differences. All of you should regard yourselves as children of God. You have to regard man's brotherhood and God's fatherhood as two eyes for yourselves. If you can promote this brotherhood of man and fatherhood of God in you, automatically there will be a revulsion to doing sin, and then you will be able to promote happiness in yourself.

Boys and girls, you have been sitting here for more than two to three hours. Naturally, you would have been feeling tired. In those conditions, I do not want to give you a long talk and make you feel further tired. This is not something good. I am therefore wanting to close my discourse. But in future, I would ask the teachers to give you an opportunity by which you will be able to meet in small groups, and these groups may discuss amongst themselves any doubts that you may want to clarify. That kind of opportunity should be given to you by the Balvikas teachers.

We are trying different methods of discipline in our Balvikas classes. We are trying different paths by which to train them. It is not possible to get an assessment in large groups of how these are being liked. It is good to have small groups and ascertain from the children which of the methods, which of the paths are working and working to their satisfaction. What is liked by them and what is not liked by them. Such a thing is possible only when you meet the children in small groups. In large groups, it is not possible. I would suggest that the teachers should have small units, meet them in small units, and find out what are the paths that are appealing to them and are working satisfactorily, what are the paths which are not appealing to them and which are not working satisfactorily.

There is one thing which is an important item and which I wish to communicate to the teachers. To the children, anything concerning a religion or anything relating to some aspect of a religion, you should not teach it to them in a manner which will create some contradictions in their minds. One should not hate any religion. All religions will only teach how we can go closer to God. One should not take the attitude that one religion is bigger, another religion is smaller, and one should not make such comparisons. It is the equality of all religions, which is the essence, and the acceptance of the main principles of all religions is the essence of Sai ideals is something which you should recognize.

There is only one religion, the religion of love. There is only one caste, the caste of humanity. There is only one language, the language of the heart. There is only one God who is omnipresent.

To recognize all these religions as equal and conveying the same thing on an equal footing is something which is to be inculcated in the minds of the children. You should not compare them. You should not say that one is big or one is small. Does not matter whether Christians come to us, Parsis come to us, Jains come to us, or Muslims come to us. We should regard them equally welcome. We should regard this beautiful country as a garden in which all these different religions are flowering and adding to the beauty of this garden.

Our country, Bharat, is like Nandanavana. In this Nandanavana, various religions which are flourishing should be regarded as different flowers that are flourishing in this country, and these flowers flourishing in Nandanavana give us Ananda or bliss.

End of discourse.
